Since I intend to make this blog 'useful' I will now make a list of a bunch of free open source software I am using of have used.
in no particular order
Audacity - free, open source software for recording and editing sounds
Filezilla - FileZilla Client is a fast and reliable cross-platform FTP, FTPS and SFTP client with lots of useful features and an intuitive graphical user interface.
Mozilla Firefox - The award-winning Firefox Web browser
OpenOffice.org 3 - is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing
Notepad++ is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages.
VirtualBox - is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use.
vlc - open-source multimedia framework, player and server
Chromium - open source web browser. also see: Chromium B.S.U. a fast paced, arcade-style, top-scrolling space shooter
GIMP - the GNU Image Manipulation Program.
AssaultCube is a free multiplayer first-person shooter game, based on the CUBE engine.
Frets on Fire is a game of musical skill and fast fingers. The aim of the game is to play guitar with the keyboard as accurately as possible
there's a lot more but it would take a long time to list them sourceforge.net hosts a lot of free software
